Introducing many new features
The recent Formula E race in Monaco was the latest in a long series of auto races to take place in the Mediterranean city-state. Formula E chose the Monaco E-Prix as the occasion to reveal their third-generation race car, the Gen3, which is set to make it’s debuting season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E world championships.
For decades incremental improvements in motorsport have mostly been about aerodynamics. Thanks to software engineering there is a new battlefield for innovation and competition. Performance upgrades to the Gen3 will be delivered as software updates directly to the cars operating system.
The latest race car features a number of design, engineering, and production innovations. The car offers top speeds of over 200mph and is the most efficient formula racing car to date. Formula E have claimed that more than 40% of the energy used in a race will be produced by regenerative braking.
Sustainability is at the core of Formula E’s missions, and in every aspect, the production of the Gen3 has taken sustainable racing into consideration. The vehicle’s batteries are even made from sustainably-sourced minerals, and the cells will be reused and recycled at the end of life.
