Efficient crankcase breathing is an important function of any engine. Even in a new engine, the combustion pressure will inevitably pass the piston rings into the crankcase. If an engine’s breathing system should become blocked or restricted, the crankcase will pressurise causing any one or more of the following problems:
- The oil/air mix will force its way out through any other convenient exit e.g. oil seals, dip stick, filler cap, etc.
- The efficiency of the oil control rings will be reduced creating increased oil consumption.
- Impurities such as water vapour and acids (by products of combustion) will build up and contaminate the oil causing sludging and increased engine wear.
- The adverse affect on the air/fuel mixture will result in starting problems and rough idling conditions.
To avoid such issues you can improve the crankcase breathing. We have a fantastic product to help with this at Viper. Our self-seal hose breather take offs are easy to fit and high quality.
Our hose breather take offs, have been specially designed and CNC machined out of billet aluminium with a flat seat in order to minimise flow disruption inside the main hose. The barbed finish on the fitting will mean you get a good connection with the take off hose, by simply push fitting the hose into the take off.
When you need a special take off port in a rubber or silicone hose simply drill a small whole into the hose where required, and pop this special fitting into the hose. This has been specially designed for leak proof connection for air, water.
How to use self seal take offs:
We have a great how to video showing how simple it is to fit our self seal take offs to your hoses. You can see this below.
- Mark the hose a drill a hose smaller than the fitting
- Carefully push the fitting through the hole from the inside of the hose
- Make sure the fitting is pushed right to the end
- Place the washer and screw together
- Screw firmly with a spanner to ensure a tight seal
