Silicone Hoses: Coming to an F1 track near you today

When watching the high speeds and exhilaration of Formula 1 it’s very easy to forget the engineering that goes into the cars that you watch, from the dazzling heights of Red Bull & Mercedes, to Saab & Williams. How materials such as aluminium tubes and silicone hoses can be used, creating a drastic impact on the performance of the cars, and ultimately the performance of the team in the standings.

Silicone Hoses:

Silicone hoses are commonly used by many teams for the benefits they offer over steel. They have an extreme resistance too high temperatures allowing teams to run coolants under hotter temperatures and higher pressures, consequently allowing for the teams to push the engines harder for that competitive advantage.

Being flexible and very resistant to damage also allows them to be routed in a more optimal path while resisting tearing and damage from external sources, this reliability is useful for motorsport teams, as they are less likely to require pitting to fix issues or replace hoses, costing them valuable time.

However, despite this due to them being porous they cannot be used to for fuel and oil as the fluid would be absorbed and leak which would cause all manner of problems, so depending on their use case they are not always the best option to go for.

Aluminium Hoses:

Aluminium is also another material commonly used for hoses in motorsport usually in place of steel hoses and pipes. They’re lightweight being roughly 1/3rd the weight of a similar shaped steel hose presents an extreme weight-saving technique in a sport where every lost KG counts massively, so being able to shave that much weight off a vehicle presents a key advantage for a team.

The material is also incredibly strong and durable thanks to its malleability allowing it to flex and bend under pressures and heavy loads as well as bounce back with surprising ease allowing it to remain a solid and durable choice throughout the race as it progresses.

Aluminium Tubes & it’s impact on performance

Feel the difference with Aluminium Tubes

Aluminium tubes & pipes have important industrial applications as well as applications for modern-day consumer living. Many suppliers and customers trust for its lightweight properties and advanced durability. This means it finds great use in joining silicone and being fabricated into hard paperwork.

Lightweight:

Being a lightweight material, which is about a ⅓ of the weight of steel, aluminium is much cheaper and easier to transport than most of the other metals. Meaning it’s great for companies who wish to handle large quantities but worry less about the logistics of transporting and working with it.

Durability:

When compared to other alternatives, aluminium tubes also offer stronger durability which means it is more suited for withstanding wear, pressure and damage incurred in everyday use. Given that it is recommended for high-intensity work where silicone and rubber alternatives won’t do the job.

With that in mind, aluminium has found its use in temperature-controlled applications such as solar panels, air conditioning and refrigeration.

Yet despite this many companies still favour other materials such as rubber and silicone despite the strong application that aluminium has on tubing & piping. Such industries that have made the switch include automotive, defence, food, wind & more who are quickly seeing the higher quality of use when choosing aluminium tubes & piping

Join the hundreds of companies and clients making the switch to Aluminium and discovering the benefits of aluminium tubes for their businesses.

Silicone hoses and how they can affect your vehicle performance

The impact of silicone hoses and vehicle performance

When you think of vehicle performance, your eyes will turn to a great engine, maybe a set of high-quality and durable wheels, items which are synonymous with performance and taking your vehicle to the next level.

However, it can be easy to cloud your judgement and easily forget about another component that impacts your performance both under the bonnet and out in the world, from tracks to dirt. That’s the trusty silicone hoses. Silicone hoses offer a valuable performance enhancement due to the high quality found in the silicone material itself.

Compared to other applications such as rubber, silicone has become a trusted choice of many due to its number of advantages such as heat tolerance and overall durability and strength.

When you use rubber hosing in your car, you are prone to cracking and dryness which you won’t find with silicone hoses. This is true to cars that get little to no track time, and those that spend the majority of their lives on the road.

Benefits of silicone hoses for vehicle installation:

  • More affordable pricing,
  • Ease of making custom shapes,
  • Flexibility
  • Strength,
  • Heat resistance.

Here at Viper Performance, we are proud stockists of a variety of silicone hoses that put quality above everything else. By choosing quality you are choosing reliability, consistency and trust that your vehicle will perform to the standard you expect.

Alpine is “significantly up” with its 2023 F1 car development

New advanced technology is expected to be unveiled

Alpine are set to deliver a big step forward with it’s 2023 car.

The Enstone-based squad has had the fourth quickest car for much of the 2022 campaign and is the favourite to secure the best-of-the-rest slot in the constructors’ championship behind Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

An aggressive update programme has been one of the key elements of its season which has helped it push closely to the front of the field.

And the ongoing promise that development it is showing with its current car is mirrored with work on its 2023 car, which is currently ongoing in its wind tunnel and CFD facilities.

Alan Permane, sporting director, has revealed that early indications point to next year’s car delivering some good gains, which has set up the prospect of it being able to close in on teams ahead.

Alpine’s point-scoring form has been hit this season by a run of reliability issues, however the team remains confident in pushing things to the limit at the start of the new rules era so it could be set to reap bigger rewards in the longer term.

Alan Permane stated that there has been a massive change on the power unit, as well as the gearbox.

Permane continued to praise the efforts that are being made by all the team at Alpine’s factory, who are consistently delivering improvements with new developments.

Formula 1 record 24-round calendar for 2023 season

A new growing schedule in motorsport

The biggest F1 schedule has been released for the 2023 season and includes Monaco GP, Las Vegas, and Chinese GP.

The schedule has been put together by F1 owners Liberty Media over recent weeks, the calendar has now been approved by an e-vote of the FIA’s World Motor Sports Council.

An important consideration that had to be made was that the schedule needed to avoid any clash with the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The prestigious sportscar race is due to take place on June 10/11, which will be the week between the Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix.

The FIA president recently stated that the presence of 24 races in the 2023 season is further evidence of how much the racing sport is growing on a global scale.

Inline with a record number of races, the 2023 season also had some interesting date changes. This includes the Azerbaijan GP moving from its June slot to now take place at the end of April just one week before the Miami GP.

Whilst Formula 1 claimed that it wanted to make the schedule more regional to avoid unnecessary travel around the work, some events remain very spread out.

It has been reported that Vegas will become the penultimate round to form a glitzy double-header with Abu Dhabi, as the season will draw to a close on the final weekend in November.

Volvo Trucks starts series production of heavy electric trucks

New generation of trucks

Volvo Trucks have announced their plans to begin a series of production of the electric versions of its heavy-duty trucks: Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX, which are considered to be the companies most important product ranges.

The three models represent ⅔ of the company’s sales which means introducing electrified versions could cause a major difference.

Production of the Volvo FH electric, Volvo FM Electric and Volvo FMX electric started in the Swedish factory on the same line as its conventional trucks to provide maximum flexibility and efficiency in the transition period.

In 2023, Volvo trucks intend to start production of the trio in their Belgium factory where they hope for a new battery pack assembly facility should be ready this quarter.

The company will now offer a total of 6 battery-electric trucks. According to Volvo Trucks this is the broadest electric truck line-up in the industry.

Volvo has also stated that the demand for electric trucks is increasing at a rapid rate. The line-up already attracted orders for more than 2,600 units, this includes roughly 1,000 for the new heavy-duty trucks with a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of 44 tons.
